Fit = Successful?
Why do fit people always seem to succeed in life?
I came across a fascinating statistic recently. It makes sense but the magnitude of the claim still has me in awe. Do you know what it was?
“In all, Fortune estimates that 95 percent of its Fortune 500 CEOs played sports. While only 6 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs are women, the proportion of women CEOs who were athletes is similar—90 percent of them played sports at some point, and 54 percent played sports at the university level.”
Almost 100% of Fortune 500 CEOs ??? I am still shocked by this…but it really does make sense. To rise into the C-suite, you have to cultivate the characteristics that are pounded into young athletes’ heads from the start (a lot of character building and life coaching goes on behind the scenes of these athletic programs…A LOT). I truly believe military service and athletics give young men and women a foundation that most other activities cannot match.
And I believe that these lessons and habits can be learned just by becoming a fit & healthy individual. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a result of being an athlete. By staying consistent with your training and habits, you can build these attributes as well. Let’s dive into some of those attributes below!
We all have big goals heading into 2024…net worth, relationships, career, health & fitness, etc. Moving into the new year, I will be taking on a few clients for personal training. If you’re looking to gain some muscle, drop a few pounds, or just build a lasting health & fitness lifestyle moving into the new year, sign up for a free consultation call below. Let’s see if we can work together!
There’s an unlimited number of positive traits that come with being in shape. I’ve listed out my top benefits from training almost my whole life. Ready for some rapid fire? Let’s go!
Discipline:
Consistently engaging in exercise routines and making healthy choices requires discipline. Just by taking the time to move outside of your work, family, and personal life builds something unbreakable. This trait can spill over into other areas of life, fostering a disciplined approach to work, relationships, and personal development.
Self-Esteem and Confidence:
Achieving fitness goals, whether it's improving strength, losing weight, or enhancing endurance, can boost self-esteem and confidence. Feeling good about your physical abilities often translates into increased confidence in various aspects of life.
Stress Management:
Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce stress and improve mental well-being. Learning how to manage stress through exercise can lead to a more composed and resilient mindset when facing challenges.
Time Management:
Incorporating regular exercise into a busy schedule requires effective time management. This skill can extend to other areas of life, helping individuals prioritize tasks and activities more efficiently.
Improved Focus and Productivity:
Exercise has cognitive benefits, including enhanced focus, concentration, and memory. As a result, a healthy and fit lifestyle can contribute to increased productivity and better performance in professional and personal pursuits.
Resilience:
Overcoming obstacles, pushing through physical challenges, and sticking to a fitness routine build resilience. This resilience can be applied to face difficulties in various aspects of life with a more positive and determined mindset.
Positive Body Image:
Engaging in healthy habits fosters a positive body image. Accepting and appreciating your body for what it can do, rather than focusing solely on appearance, can contribute to a healthier relationship with yourself.
Improved Sleep Patterns:
Regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle often lead to improved sleep quality. Quality sleep positively impacts mood, cognitive function, and overall well-being.
Social Connections:
Participating in group fitness activities or sports provides opportunities for social interaction and community building. This fosters positive relationships and a sense of belonging.
Healthy Habits for Life:
Adopting a healthy and fit lifestyle involves developing positive habits, such as mindful eating, regular exercise, and self-care. These habits can contribute to a long-term, sustainable approach to well-being.
Emotional Regulation:
Exercise has been linked to improved mood and emotional regulation. Regular physical activity can help manage anxiety and depression, promoting emotional well-being.
Lifelong Learning:
Exploring different types of exercises, nutrition strategies, and wellness practices fosters a mindset of continuous learning. This curiosity can extend beyond fitness, leading to personal and professional growth.
If you can take care of yourself and have a positive relationship with your body, you’re providing yourself the building blocks for major life success. Just like everything else in life, fitness is built brick by brick. And if you can take care of your health & fitness, every other area of life will feel that much easier to build. I promise 😀
